Using Your Voice to Be an Effective Advocate - SCS11

Session Description 
Given the preponderance of health misinformation, it is imperative that credible physicians make their voices heard but we need more opportunities for training. This session will define physician advocacy and present traditional and expanded avenues for influencing the public discussion using specific examples for achieving goals. Traditional ways include liaising with medical society (ACOG) advocates, writing Op-Eds, coalition building with community groups, and being a resource for legislators or the media. Expanded ways harness physician creativity, e.g., writing and art, as ways to inform and inspire action. Creative means of messaging also have the potential to enhance physician wellbeing.
