David Chelmow, M.D. is the Leo J Dunn Professor and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He recently completed a term as interim dean of the School of Medicine. He received his M.D. at Yale University and completed his OB/GYN residency at UCSF.
He is a member of the US Preventive Services Task Force. He is a Past President of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) and the Council of University Chairs in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CUCOG) and was the inaugural President of the Society for Academic Specialists in General OB/GYN (SASGOG). He has previously served on the ACGME OB/GYN Review Committee, the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Board of Directors for ABOG. He is a former Chair of the ACOG Committee on Practice Bulletins-GYN. He previously served as Chair of the Multidisciplinary Steering Committee of the Women’s Preventive Services Initiative.
Dr. Chelmow’s academic interests are evidence-based medicine, guideline development, well person care, and breast and cervical cancer screening and prevention. He has served on a number of consensus guideline committees and authored several ACOG Practice Bulletins and Clinical Practice Guidelines.
