Dr. Yousra Mohamoud has been an epidemiologist with the CDC’s Division of Reproductive Health -Perinatal and Infant Health Team since 2020. In this role, she leads various scientific projects most notably the recent vital signs examining maternity care experiences of mistreatment and discrimination in the US. Yousra has also published work examining the effect of geographic factors including poverty, rurality, and racialized-economic segregation on preterm birth and infant mortality at term. She provides epidemiologic support to the Perinatal Quality Collaboratives and SUID/SDY case registry. She obtained her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her MS in Infectious Disease Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Yousra’s previous work in infectious diseases included estimating the mother to child transmission rate of Hepatitis C, characterizing the epidemiology of Hepatitis C and HIV in the Middle East and North Africa and evaluating HIV prevention interventions in sub-Saharan Africa.
