Karen Harris graduated from Vassar College in New York with honors. She received her medical degree from the University of Florida. Upon completion of her residency in 1989 at Johns Hopkins, she returned to Gainesville where she has been practicing for 35 years. In 2018 she started an Ob/Gyn Residency at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital where she is currently Associate Professor for UCF.
Dr. Harris became involved in the Florida Obstetric and Gynecologic Society in 1993, becoming its first woman president in 2001. She is also a Past Chair of ACOG District XII. She currently is on the Steering Committee of the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative (FPQC), the Co-Lead for the FPQC Initiative on the Social Determinants of Health and Respectful Maternity Care and a member of the Florida Maternal Mortality Review Committee.
