Dr. Louis-Jacques is a clinical-translational researcher, assistant professor, and a board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician at the University of Florida (UF) College of Medicine. Her research program is focused on interventions (e.g., doula support) and behaviors (lactation) during the perinatal period to decrease maternal morbidities. Pertaining to this presentation, she has worked with birthing people, doulas, and state-funded doula programs serving social and economically disadvantaged families to understand doulas’ role in improving perinatal outcomes and collaborated on doula-led interventions focused on improving breastfeeding success and maternal wellbeing in the postpartum period. Recent and ongoing projects are focused on Florida Medicaid doula reimbursement policies/processes and integration of community doulas in the clinical setting to improve maternal health and decrease maternal health disparities.
